    Dear Luke,

Just voted for you in British Podcast Awards – Listener Choice! ;-)

Dear LEPsters, vote here for Luke! Be quick, the voting closes soon…

    www.britishpodcastawards.com/vote/

    Good luck, Luke!!! :)

    Cat

    • Wow, thanks! I should get the word out!

      • Cat

You’re welcome! :) It was mentioned in the recent episode of Kermode & Mayo’s Film Review (starting with 00:11:56). Mayo was talking about getting 1 pound per vote (if I got it correctly).
Even if you don’t win, it’s good for enhancing your visibility, I’m sure! ;-)

        Good luck!

      • Actually, I remember hearing them mention that but I didn’t consider that LEP could be entered into it.
I’m wondering if I qualify, because I live in France and there’s where most of my episodes are produced.
But I suppose if they accept the nomination, I’m happy! (After all, it’s very much a British thing isn’t it)

      • Cat

        Oh, thanks!

The LEP was in the list. There was no option for typing in a podcast. It was already there to be chosen. :)

The jury chair is Helen Zaltzman (from The Allusionist), by the way. :)

      • Ptholome

There was Molly, though I couldn’t understand her at all, and the girl from all ears … And Sarah in the USA episode elections,

      • There were a few girls in early episodes too, like Claudia who was in the episode about expressions for travelling and the first episode about stand up comedy.

      • Cat

… and there is also Ms Gill Thompson, whom I miss VERY much!!! I wonder how is she doing… and would like to checking in on her… :))

      • Cat

… I wonder who put your podcast onto that website to be voted for, Luke? Was it you? Or was it someone else? Did they contacted you? Someone must have put the LEP on there, as they were programming the page…

      • It wasn’t me, so I have no idea who registered me for it. I need to announce it on the podcast soon. I think I’ll need to make a special little announcement episode. The thing is – it says in the terms and conditions that the competition is for podcasters in the UK. I live in France these days. What do you think?

      • Cat

Luke, I remember reading about at least 6 episodes in 2017 for UK podcasters.

You have produced 6 episodes there, haven’t you? For example during the Christmas Holidays with your family. Also all your interviews with Rick and James. And all your content is dealing with the UK. If I were a judge, I would include you into the list of the UK podcasters. You are the UK citizen, aren’t you? Your podcast website is also located in the UK (co.uk). So, don’t worry! ;-)

And you should definitely do an extra “Message to the LEPsters episode”, a special banner on your website, messages on Facebook, YouTube etc.

I think you will have lots of competitors! (Just think of Kermode & Mayo, and they mentioned it on their podcast).

PS: if you want to be absolutely certain about the terms & conditions, you may contact Ms Zaltzman. :)

      • Actually, I contacted the organisers of the competition today and asked them.
They said I was accepted in the competition.
        So, let’s do this!

      • Cat

        YES!!! :-)

    • Jack

Fank you Catherine for letting us know. I have just voted.

      King rules King rocks

    • Marta KL

      Cool! Voted! :)
      Thanks, Cat!

    • Tony Dushkov

      Great. Good luck, Luke.

    • Eri Taguchi

      I have also voted!!!
Good luck, Luke and thanks Cat!!!

      • Cat

        Dear Eri, welcome back! :)
I hope your trip to Hongkong (Kingkong?) :) was great.
Please tell other Japanese LEPsters to vote as well. ;-)
        Cheers
        Cat

      • Eri Taguchi

        Thank you, Cat

Mom and I had a nice time aothough weather were not great…(I would say just because of my mom. She is 雨女(rain woman). We have an expression “Rain women” or “Rain men” which indicate person who always bring bad weather if they go out…)

If it is OK to use Japanese here, I would ask some other Japanese whose English is not still enough to understand what is going on here….

But I want other Japanese who is checking comments some time to vote!!!!!!!!

Tipe “Luke’s” on the search bar.

You can find out “Luke’s English Podcast” with its logo.

Vote for it with your name and e-mail address.

This is getting intense :D , I am waiting for episode `wrestlemania` :P

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c6LFAW1Sjw

    • Cat

Oh my Ghosh, what is this?! I have to hide behind my sofa…
Why are they staring at each other so long? I didn’t quite get it…

I don’t want Luke fighting with Andy like this, oh, please, no!
Boys, just calm down and stay in peace (and in piece). :))

      • Jack

Catherine, both these gentlemen will fight each other at Wrestlemania which is an event held in the month of April by wwe, but we the lepsters are in for a double whammy, not only are these gentlemen going to fight in April but our teachers (Luke and Andy) are also going one on one against each other for the world`s best teacher title in the coming month. :D

      • Jack

Teacher Andy has just given the best presentation in the history of IATEFL – just hear the fans chant his name Catherine.

What fan pop, what microphone skills – Amazingly brilliant.
Now it is all about the main event “The Title Match” in April.

        www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkqRkgQl0xE

      • Cat

Oh, I have little pleasure in watching such things… Sorry! :)

      • Jack
      • Cat

So does this little brotha. :)))

      • Jack

Catherine, speaking of brothas, where is my brotha Nick ?

Brotha Nick we miss you :(

      • Cat

I don’t know! Maybe on some detox tour… He was speaking of being a “severe case of LEPaholism”. :-)

I hope he is well, and didn’t get eaten by some Uralian bear.

      • Jack

Comments section should be renamed as “dwelling of LEPaholics” with you being the president. :-)

Hope ma brotha comes back soon.

      • Cat

Cat as the main LEPaholic. :))

No, thanks, I deny to be the President. Why not you, or Ptholome? I’m just Cat, independent and wild. :))

      • Jack

And we refuse to let you go :)
You are the President followed by Antonio Sir as the vice president :))

      • Cat

… and that would mean the end ot this lovely cat (she’s not a lion but an ordinary pet cat). :))

      • Jack

        Madame President Catherine :)))))

      • Cat

Oh no! Now I’m forced to run away and hide behind the bushes… As Nick did… Maybe I can find him there and will tell him about you, how you do scare nice people away (with your wrestling heros and fighting announcements!) :)))

      • Jack

        I am sorry Catherine :(

      • Nick

She’s a queen remember? :)) Queen Catherine the Great.

      • Jack

        Welcome back ma brotha :)))))

        All hail the Queen. :))))

      • Nick

Thank you Jack! It’s very touching, your concern for my absence :)
Yeah! God bless the Queen! :))

      • Cat

Jack, Nick was asking where are YOU from, the other day. Maybe he left as you gave no answer and just ignored him… ;)

      • Jack

        I am from Andromeda :D

      • Cat

Well, I’m Cat from Milky Way, nice to meet you, neighbour! :))

      • Jack

Oh hello there ( in a posh voice :pppp )

      • Cat

… and Luke, Amber and Paul are the Terrific Trio of Triangulum. :-)

      • Cat

        Is there a dromedary on Andromeda, Jack-drummer? I wonder… :)

      • Nick

I traveled away from the spring to Hoth ;))

      • Cat

Is it ever hot on Hoth? :))

      • Nick

It’s freezing cold all year! By the way we have large snow lizards here ;))

      • Cat

Who is this person? He’s quite eloquent for such a muscular body… His tattoo reminded me of Maui in Moana. And see there, I’ve just discovered that he actually did his voice in the Disney picture! Didn’t know it… I saw Moana in German with other voices… :))

      • Jack

Catherine, he is a famous wrestler turned actor. His name is Dwayne Johnson and yes he is famous for his microphone skills. He is the greatest trash talker in the history of sports entertainment :)))

      • Jack

Anyone who wants to improve his/her presentation skills for business / academic needs should use this clip to shadow practice :p

        Works wonders :D

      • Nick

Yeah! On the arena underneath the Rock is Maui :))

      • Nick

Jack have you seen the animated movie “Moana” the Rock is adorable there :))
        www.youtube.com/watch?v=79DijItQXMM

      • Jack

Nick brotha I havent seen the movie but the song is so catchy – its lovely.

        Thanks for sharing it :)))))

      • Nick

        D. Johnson: “I’ve been told that in these very politically charged times there’s literally one thing that can bring the entire planet together – Dwayne Johnson’s singing his song from the Oscar nominated Moana live in front of the billion people”
        www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qzKbOXw4D8

      • Jack

Thanks for the share my brother

      • Jack, how much am I getting paid for this?

      • Jack

        For the match :P ?

      • I’m talking 7 digits here. Nothing less.

      • Jack

I am skint but we all LEPsters will be cheering for you :p

      • Cat

How much you are asking for, Luke? :)

  • Orion team

    Hi LEPsters,

    Hi LEpsters,

We have finished the second part of the football world cup episodes, 188 episode. so you can work and correct it is you like.

    docs.google.com/document/d/1hNGhuUIkc8ZMFUdnVDfm_NR1fBSL1JCTPbSlCGOI8qU/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks to all of you who did this transcription.

  • Nick

In behalf of joke: who do they think will win a blood duel between Luke and Andy if that happens :)

And all the best of luck for both of them! Especially with their projects.

Oh, I’m sorry! I commented in a wrong place! :(

    • Ptholome

You can copy and paste the text on the right place.

      • Nick

But I can’t delete the wrong comment. I remember that I could do it some time ago, but now I can’t. I guess thank to Luke ;))

      • Shall I delete it?

      • Nick

No, it’s ok. I’m just explaining to Antonio that I can’t delete previous comments and it’s better to not make a copy of that in another place.

      • Ptholome

Well, you can edit it and change it for another one.

      • Nick

It’s more complicated than just delete it :))

  • Hi LEPsters,
Today I’m going to record an episode with Amber & Paul.
Do you have any questions for them?

    • Marta KL

Hi Luke, I´d like to ask Paul what is going to be his next project after WTF France?
Say hi to them and I´m looking forward to this episode! :)

      • Nick

        I’m voting for Marta’s question!

    • Paul Mabior

      Hello Luke,
Great that you’ll be meeting Paul and Amber. Ask Paul what’s the secret behind speaking with that supersonic speed.I have heard him ‘spitting’ like a thousand words per minute.Let him share some tips with us.This will surely be helpful.

      Love.

    • Антон Степанов

Who would win in a fight a Shark or a Grizzly Bear?

      • Cat

As for me, I’m for the bears! :))

      • Nick

        Why is that? ;))

      • Cat

        I like bears. :))

    • Alexandr Shnaider

Hi, Luke. I wonder when we should expect the release of Amber’s podcast and how we can find it.

      • Nick

I would also ask does Amber want to make a site for her podcast like Luke did.

      • Ptholome

She makes stand up shows, she is a mother, she works, she is quite often with Luke… Do you think she is going to time for as podcast?

      • Cat

Hugo is in a daycare now, so Amber could manage that. ;)

Customers and followers expect a website nowadays, I think. If she goes for a solution with a comfortable content management system, she could manage it well enough. :)
And there she could install another Disqus and we could leave comment there, and she could answer us. Wouldn’t it be great? ;)

      • Ptholome

It is easy to manage other time. :)

      • Cat

Thanks God there will be no translation tasks, since it won’t be an English learning podcast. So you could feel free there of every obligations! :))

      • Ptholome

        Of course. I agree.

      • Nick

There will be Paris history tasks ;))

      • Nick

Yes, you’re right Cat, with a site Amber will know what her listeners want, like, prefer… so she will be able to make more targeted product. Second, some additional listeners can find her podcast via web. Third, if listeners have ability to communicate it will make them actively participate in the project, so they would have more reasons to help by paying money or doing other useful things like transcribing here.

      • Nick

Also Luke can help her with making a website.

      • Actually, Amber is in the process of creating her own podcast. It’s going to be about the history of Paris.

    • Jack

Hello Paul hello Amber, how art you guys

My question is when and where did you first meet King ?

King please film this episode if possible, fanks.

      • Ptholome

HI, Jack. Are you going to name Luke as king forever? Maybe he likes to be named Luke and I bet he is really proud of it. On the other hand. in Star war films there is not a king as famous as Luke :)

      • Jack

Antonio Sir, I don`t know what to say. Maybe we should ask our teacher. :-)

Dear teacher please guide us :p

      • Ptholome

I know it’s nice, but we usually like to be named by our name. imagine, Luke English podcast as kingEnglishpodcast ?

The problem is that only the few people commenting here everyday or very often know about whom you are speaking. Other people are not going to understand. But if you like it it’s up to you to named him King instead Luke. King skywalker ? :))

      • Cat

Are you comfortable with being called “Sir Ptholome”? ;)

Jack just loves to give flowers, I think, it’s his nature. :))

      • Ptholome

This name has a meaning for me and it took me months to find it. And mainly I chose it and even created it. and I am using it since 1995 when we had internet in Spain.

      • Cat

Okay, I meant the “Sir” part — because it means that you’ve been knighted by Jack. Are you comfortable with being called “Sir Anthonio”? If yes, maybe so is Luke with being called “King” :))

      • Ptholome

The “sir” is something I hear a lot in the movies and at school when people speak to other person and on the tv so I don’t know a lot about the use of that. Because we are students, some people use that when they write so I didn’t think about any meaning at all. Nevertheless I thought it was kind of like in France where we call people Monsieur or Madame. Monsieur ptholome or Madame Cat.

      • Nick

        I’m a brotha for Jack :))

      • Cat

Some of Zdenek’s episodes have the title “Sir Luke Thompson”. :))

      • Cat

I think everybody (also the newcomers) can guess who the King is here. :))

      • Ptholome

        It’s okay. Understood. :)

      • Cat

Jack, have you seen the new King Kong film? :)

      • Jack

        No Catherine unfortunately not :(

      • Cat

I just saw a huge advert in the cinema on Sunday. I think it didn’t start yet… But in Russia, films start a bit earlier, don’t they?

      • Jack

Catherine, I don`t know about Russia, Nick brotha would be able to tell us :)

      • Jack, you can call me whatever you like as long as your intentions are good.

      • Jack

        Thank you Luke :)

      • I don’t really mind being called King. It’s actually quite flattering. Also, the way Jack writes (with words like ‘fanks’ and ‘brotha’ makes me read his comments in a kind of London accent, which I find amusing – hope you don’t mind Jack) Actually, Paul and I talked about this on the podcast yesterday. Episode coming soon(ish)!

      • Nick

I wonder where he is from then….

    • Jack

King, when will this episode be available on the website ?

I am badly waiting for one :)

      • This one will go up in a week or two. I’m going to upload a couple of episodes before that, so hold tight.

Unfortunately Amber can’t be with us today, so it’s going to be a Paul Taylor special episode.

      • Cat
      • Jack

        hahahahhahahaha

Catherine this song is now the official anthem of LEP

        I almost died laughing:-)))

      • Cat

Jack, are you the solo singer or one on the drums? :))
I’m one of the dancing girls :))

      • Jack

Catherine I am on the drums :)))

      • Cat

His name is Anthony. I like him very much. His whole family is involved in the Wiggles Project. I think one of his daughters is one of the dancing girls. :)

      • Jack

Catherine, imagine King playing this song at the start of every episode :-)

      • Cat

Yes, with a kingly roar! :))

    • Cat

Oh, thank you for asking, Luke! I’ve just seen your notice — on a very short notice, indeed. It’s a nice new idea of you to do some forecasting before podcasting! Great! :)
I’m sure you did another fantastic episode with the terrific duo today. Looking forward and I almost can’t wait! :)
      Thank you!
      Cat

PS: when is the first episode of Amber’s Paris history podcast? And is it known already how the podcast is to be called?

    • Wesley

      Hello Luke, Amber, and Paul,
Are you doing all right? As the French presidential election is drawing nearer, I was wondering what the three of you think about the candidates. After Brexit and the Italian constitutional referendum result, Marine Le Pen being the next French President could be the final blow for the European Union. In your opinion, does she stand a good chance to win the election? In this so-called ‘post-truth era’, do you consider opinion polls sufficiently reliable?
      All the best,
      Wesley

      • Orion team

Until now, the only times Len Pen arrived to the second turn, ( in France people vote two times at any election) the republicans voted for Chirac left and right togethers.
        youtu.be/psZpPaIfd84
And I think it is going to happen again but there will be less people than the last time. the Front National are stronger but not strong enough to win. I don’t think that is going to happen this time. It could happen in the future but not this year.
If in the USA could have had 2 turns certainly Trump wouldn’t be President today.

      • Ptholome

      • Jack

Antonio Sir, going by the current trend in international politics (Trump, Brexit) I think Marine The Pen has got fair chance of winning.

But I don`t know anything about French politics.

      • Ptholome

We will see. I think Macron is the one who is going to win.

    • Naomi

Hello,Luke,Amber and Paul! How are you doing?
      My questions are
1.You are very funny. Were you making laugh in classroom when you were students?
2.If you could have a special power, what would it be?
3.What food would you bring to a desert island?

      Sorry for my silly questions.
Have a nice recording.I’m looking forward to listening Pod Pals!
      And I can’t wait for Amber’s podcast!

    • Eri Taguchi

      No!!!!!
I just find this comment now…
      Oh, dear…
If I could add some message for both Amber and Paul…
      ☆To Amber
I am looking forward to listening your podcast with the most lovely voice in the world!!!
      ☆To Paul
I have been checking all video of “What The Fuck France” and can not wait next episodes and another videos on YouTube!!!
And please join in LEP sometime when you have time…

  • Cat

Dear Luke, may I put in a suggestion for a topic too? You mentioned in your recent episode that you would do one episode on the silent consonants and the like. As for me, I’m very fascinated by that subject. For example, the -ough- combination in English: Wikipedia says there are 10 variants of how it’s pronounced in British English:
Though he thoroughly thought through the tough cough, drought, hiccough, lough, and hough
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ough_(orthography)
It would be fascinating to listen to an orhography / spelling / pronunciation episode. :)
    Thanks!
    Cat

    • It’s also on my to-do list already!
(The to-do list is constantly growing, exponentially)

      • Nick

I wonder how many items in it…I guess the amount is almost the same as the amount of unsolved mysteries in Cat’s pockets :))

      • Cat

Oh, my pocketses are full already — please no more mysteries! :)

Btw I fear I’ve frightened away a Lepster recently. He was commenting on Luke’s appearance on Paul’s WTF show. I’ve asked him a question, and he disappeared. I’m so sorry! :(

      • Cat

        I gave him a riddle which he couldn’t answer…

      • Nick

Poor Lepster :)) LIke a skittish deer ran away…

      • Nick

One great mystery for me now: where is Jack from…

      • Cat

Maybe somewhere near the Urals… Maybe a little bit to the East… I don’t know. The most important thing is he is from the LEPland, like all of us. ;))

      • Cat

… as does the comments section! ;)

      • Jack

And its all thanks to you Catherine :-)

Thank you for making the comments section teem with life. KEP needs people like you

      • Cat

Oh, danke für die Blumen noch einmal! :)

    • Jack

Catherine, I think King has done some episodes on improving pronunciation and also the episode where he reads that famous poem which showcases the
      difficulties in English pronunciation

      www.youtube.com/watch?v=1edPxKqiptw

I think cat knows that. Besides, Luke did an episode reading this text. teacherluke.co.uk/2013/08/29/144-the-chaos-of-english-pronunciation/

Oh, I see it for the first time. Thank you for the link, Ptholome!

I’m here since August 25 last year, so there are plenty episodes for me yet to be discovered. Thanks again!!! ;-)

        You’re welcome, cat.
I am here since episode 255 but looking for episodes to transcribe I found it and when you wrote your comment I thought in the video Jack held but also I think you knew it but after Jack’s video, I remembered I heard an audio from luke about this topic last year … So I decided to look for it.

Thanks, Jack! It’s the first time I’m hearing this wonderful poem! :))
        It’s brilliant!!!

      • Cat

        My advice — don’t give up! :))

      • Jack

Yup Catherine, learning a language is a lifelong process and if you stop using your target language you loose it eventually.

    Hi Luke,
This is Betul from London (originally from Turkey). I was in Paris last week.I remembered the episode you were recording when strolling around Montmartre, it was before Brexit referendum you asked opinions of people on the street .I would have been really happy to be one of them:), if you schedule a meeting for Lepsters or stand-up comedy show in London I’d really like to join for sure and I believe there are so many Lepsters out there who would like to meet you:)
    lots of love

Luke, if you need some fresh ideas on new episodes, would you kindly consider making an episode where you explain some lyrics? I remember you once talked about “Welcome to The Hotel California”, that was awesome. I think (hope), your audience has an excellent taste in music just like you do, therefore we trust you in choice of the songs you would like to review. Obviously things like “Call me maybe” need no explanations, even for people, for whom English is a second language, but some songs (good ones) have cultural references, deep and meaningful philosophical background, and so one, well, you know, sometimes words have two meanings.

    Cheers.

Hello Luke. My name is Oleg and I am from Ukraine. I am a lawyer. I have joined to your thousands listeners. Your podcasts are very important and useful for me. They contain a lot of interesting information. I can play on the guitar and I like to listen the British rock music 1960-1970’s. I know, you are very busy, but I want to ask you something. Could you make a podcast about Led Zeppelin? Thank’s a lot for your a huge work!

    • Hiro

I’m a huge fan of British rock of the period, too!
