      • Cat

Couldn’t agree more on this one! :))

      • Agnes

        thanks Jack! you absolutely right!

        cheers

      • Cat

Oh, thanks for the inquiring — I started learning German as foreign language in the 4th grade. It was the only choice — Hobsons choice! :))
I loved German so much that I did later a degree in it (majoring in Historical Linguistics of the Germanic languages). So, I guess, it’s a bit easier for me to learn English, because many things seem so familiar and easy. :))

      • Agnes

Cat, don’t you think that German has way more complex grammar? I used to learn this language in a high school then abandoned it for many reasons (in some cases because of laziness). Does it mean if I started to learn it would be easier for me now? After English? As you know, I don’t want to finish on the one (second) language…

        thanks in advance

      • Cat

Each language is difficult. And it’s the matter of time and devotion that you finally can master it. It’s true for all languages! ;))

      • Agnes

        thanks Cat

      • Ptholome

Remember what you learnt from AJ Hoge. I think you have the answer already,

      • Jack

Yeah Catherine English is a Germanic language that’s why English is easy for you and also I think English is 50% easier than German, don’t you think so ? :))))

You are an inspiration, languages are incredibly difficult to learn.

      • Cat

Time and devotion, Jack! And passion. If you love what you do, no difficulty is a difficulty. ;))

      • Jack

No Catherine, motivation and having passion is important because it propels you to do stuff but I believe in order to learn languages you have to have an aptitude for languages. Great example is you ( Russian, German, English, French ) :)))))

      • Ptholome

No, Jack, the speed of your learning can measure the aptitud to learn but we can learn any language if we need it. So the passion is going to make things easier. Cat is not telling that it is easy but that is is not difficult to learn if you have the passion and the motivation. So, for talented people things are always easier than for any other person but without passion and motivation even them are not going to learn.
SO we need a goal, the motivation to reach it and the passion. and we need also to find a peer group with the same passion we have and try to do together a part of this long path…. M point of view is that learning any language is not difficult but long. We need time and we need to practice as much as we can every day. So, for me, this podcast, yhe Orion team, my skype speaking group are the peer group I need to keep my motivation at a high level,
My goal is to speak English with my grand children and all of this is the roquet driving me to the English knowledge.

        cheers

      • Jack

        Lovely comment Antonio Sir

      • Ptholome

        Agree 100%

  • Sergey Solomin

Hello everybody. We all here either to learn english or to enjoy Luke’s podcasts =) or for two above stated reasons. All or some of us speak in english with english speakers or want to (try to) speak with. I suggest making a kind of our “data base” which will include your English level, Time zone and active Skype account (etc.) so that people who want to practise english, regardless of purpose, could find a chat friend who would be of ± revelant time zone and language level. I appeal to you to consider my suggestion.
From my side I am ready to make such “data base” and publish it in comment section (here) or somewhere else (can be discussed).

If you are willing to submit your data, please submit it in commentraries or send to my email “solomin7252@gmail.com

    • Cat

      Sergey, nice idea! :)
But what about privacy and data protection issues? ;))
Maybe you can speak with Antonio and Piotr — I guess they already have such kind of “database”. I think it’s kind of a confidential information what they have — because many don’t want to share their contact data… ;)

      • Orion team

        I have nothing about that.

      • Sergey Solomin

What do you think of creating such a base ?

      • Orion team

You know, we are people from anywhere around the world with different time zone, feelings, knowledge, point of views, point of interest… I don’t know what to say.

      • Sergey Solomin

It may be an obstacle, may be not. Let me say as I see it.
I think it would be appropriate to make a simple chart with columns including name, self-introduction (voluntary), level language, time zone, also maybe column with general interests, Messenger login
To place this Word file in open source such as Google Drive for ex wih public access to it. So anyone could add their data in the Word file.
Login and password from google drive can be published in commentaries on the website or it is possible to ask Luke to infrom in one of the podcasts about this enterprise. I think he will help.
So anyone interested could add their data in file.

Take the initiative and do this on google docs. Paste the link of the doc in mode edit on this web and from time to time you should paste it again because there is a big activity on the homepage and your text will disappear after some hours.
